Mind Dissolved at the Dvādaśānta

Dissolve the mind into the space all around the body; for steady awareness, the truth stands firm.

Source verse · Verse 50
सर्वतः स्वशरीरस्य द्वादशान्ते मनोलयात्। दृढबुद्धेर्दृढीभूतं तत्त्वलक्ष्यं प्रवर्तते॥

How to practice

  1. 1Sense the space about twelve finger-widths out from the body — the dvādaśānta — on every side at once.
  2. 2Let the mind move out into that surrounding space and dissolve there, rather than staying knotted in the body.
  3. 3Keep returning the mind to that all-around dissolution until it grows steady.
  4. 4As the dissolution firms, let the sense of truth (tattva) it reveals become equally firm. Rest there.
Practice note. The dvādaśānta here is not only above the head but all around the body. Steadiness, repeated gently, is what makes the insight stable.
