What is gold purity (karat)?
Karat measures how much of an alloy is pure gold, out of 24 parts. 24K is 24/24 — pure gold (99.9%). 22K is 22 parts gold to 2 parts alloy = 91.6%, the everyday jewellery standard in India and Pakistan. Lower karats (18K, 14K) add more alloy for hardness and lower cost. The same idea is written as fineness — 916, 750, 585 — meaning parts of pure gold per thousand.
To value a piece, multiply its weight by the purity fraction to get the pure-gold content, then by the live 24K price per gram. This calculator does that live in your currency — add making charges and tax for the final shop price.
