Free Online Metronome
Rock-solid timing from 20 to 300 BPM. Time signatures, swing, accents, and auto-accelerate for practice. Spacebar to start.
Open MetronomeA metronome driven by the Web Audio clock, not setTimeout — so drift is measured in fractions of a millisecond, not tens of milliseconds like most JavaScript metronomes. Plays through background audio, so it keeps clicking when your screen locks.
Why this metronome is tighter than most
Most browser metronomes use setInterval, which is inaccurate by tens of milliseconds and audibly drifts over long sessions. This one schedules each click against the Web Audio API clock — a hardware-timed audio context that produces sample-accurate timing, with drift under 1 ms per hour.
Features for serious practice
Tap tempo: tap the screen to set BPM — averages your last 5 taps. Time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, 7/8, 9/8, 12/8, custom. Accent any beat: click the beat indicator to toggle. Subdivisions: quarter, eighth, triplet, sixteenth. Swing: 50% (straight) to 75% (heavy shuffle).
Gradual tempo increase: "Start at 80 BPM, add 5 BPM every 8 bars until 120" — the single most effective practice tool for building speed without sacrificing accuracy.
Keyboard shortcuts
Spacebar: start/stop. Great when you're holding an instrument and don't want to touch the screen. Arrow keys adjust BPM by ±1 (with Shift for ±10).
