age = today.year − birth.year − (today.monthDay < birth.monthDay ? 1 : 0)Worked: birthday 14 Aug 2010, today 27 May 2026 → 2026 − 2010 = 16, but 27 May (527) < 14 Aug (814), so age − 1 = 15. Stephen Hawking would be 84 in 2026; Greta Thunberg is 23.
How to compare your age to 30 celebrities
- Enter your birthday in the yellow date input.
- The slider redraws with a red "you-are-here" marker between the oldest and youngest celebrity.
- Age twins glow gold; ±2-year cohort celebrities are bolded and enlarged.
- Check the field-colour clustering — Music tends to cluster in 1985-1996, Tech in 1955-1984.
- Save the entry to localStorage for later recall.
From Roman natal charts to TikTok "feeling old" memes
In 2026, a family blogger writing a 'same-age-as-the-stars' weekly column needs a single screen where her readers can type their birthday and see exactly which celebrities they share an age with. This widget delivers: 30 hand-curated figures across Tech, Music, Film, Sport, Politics, Science and Activism, plotted on a single slider with the user's position marked.
The celebrity age-comparison genre is a 21st-century social-media phenomenon. The trope "I'm the same age as [X]" began trending on Twitter in 2014 with a Buzzfeed listicle, exploded on TikTok in 2020 (the "feeling old" meme), and now appears in birthday cards, Instagram Reels, and dinner-party banter. It taps a deep human instinct — using public figures as life-stage mirrors — that predates social media by millennia.
Generational labels overlay the slider naturally. The Greatest Generation (1901-1927) is too early for our set; the Silent Generation (1928-1945) is represented by Stephen Hawking (1942); Boomers (1946-1964) by Tom Cruise (1962), Barack Obama (1961), Oprah Winfrey (1954); Gen X (1965-1980) by Elon Musk (1971), Dwayne Johnson (1972); Millennials (1981-1996) by Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, LeBron James; Gen Z (1997-2012) by Greta Thunberg, Billie Eilish, Zendaya.
The use of birthdays as a comparison axis goes back to classical astrology. Hellenistic astrologers from Ptolemy onward compared natal charts of Roman emperors against contemporaries to predict political fortunes. Vedic astrologers do the same with celebrity birth charts, especially around Saturn return and Jupiter return events (every 12 and 29.5 years respectively).
Saturn return (~age 29.5) is a key astrological marker that lights up parts of the slider. Celebrities currently in their first Saturn return (early 30s in 2026) include Selena Gomez, Margot Robbie and Justin Bieber. Their second Saturn return (~age 58) is approaching for Tom Cruise (turning 64 in 2026). The Special Age widget covers this in depth.
Birth-cohort effects are well documented in epidemiology and sociology. The Flynn effect (rising IQ scores across cohorts), the Easterlin paradox (income vs happiness across generations), and the Pew Research-tracked political alignment differences all use birth-year cohorts identical to those plotted here. Reading your celebrity age-cohort is therefore a casual proxy for reading your sociological cohort.
Apparent age (how old you look) and chronological age (how old you are) are increasingly diverging in 2026 with the rise of telemedicine longevity protocols. Bryan Johnson's "Don't Die" project tracks biological age vs chronological age for thousands of subjects. This widget uses chronological age (computed from birth date) only — for biological-age calculations see specialised health-tech apps.
