Palindrome Date Finder
A palindrome date reads the same digits forwards and backwards — like 02/02/2020. This finder scans any year range from 1 AD to 9999 AD in four formats (MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, ISO 8601, and YYYYMMDD), flags universal palindromes that hold in every format, and gives you weekday and distance-from-today for every hit.

Palindrome Test Formula
isPal(s) = (s.replace(/[^0-9]/g, '') === s.replace(/[^0-9]/g, '').reverse())Worked example: for 02/02/2020, strip non-digits to get 02022020. Reverse it to 02022020 — identical — therefore the date is a palindrome in MM/DD/YYYY. For 11/02/2011, MM/DD form is 11022011, reversed is 11022011 — also a palindrome (a famous one).

How to Find Palindrome Dates — 5-Step Guide
- Step 1 — Pick a year window. Choose a range from 1 AD to 9999 AD. Wider ranges produce more hits but take longer; a single century is instant.
- Step 2 — Choose formats. The four checkboxes (MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, ISO, YYYYMMDD) let you find region-specific palindromes. Leave all four enabled to find every possible match.
- Step 3 — Click Find. The scanner enumerates every calendar day, builds the four format strings, and tests each for digit symmetry using the formula above.
- Step 4 — Read the table. Cells highlighted in emerald are palindromes in that format. Rows tinted gold are universal palindromes (work in every format simultaneously).
- Step 5 — Mirror-verify a date. Paste any candidate date into the engraving widget above. The gold axis is the mirror line — perfect overlap means it's a true palindrome.
A Brief History of Palindrome Dates
In May 2026, a wedding planner in Copenhagen searching for the next universal palindrome date to market to clients needs an instant scan of the Gregorian calendar from now until the year 3000. That precise friction point — needing every palindrome across MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, and ISO 8601 simultaneously, without scrolling through Aziz Inan's academic papers — is what this calculator solves.
The word palindrome itself comes from the Greek palindromos («running back again»), coined in the 17th century by poet Ben Jonson. The mathematical study of palindromic numbers and dates accelerated in the 20th century, but cataloging palindrome dates of the Gregorian calendar — which itself was promulgated by Pope Gregory XIII in October 1582 — became a recognized academic pursuit only in the 2000s.
The figure most associated with palindrome dates is Aziz S. Inan, a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Portland (and previously Hartford). Since approximately 2007 he has published annual inventories listing every palindrome date in each Gregorian century. His most-cited result identifies just six universal palindromes (works in MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, and YYYY-MM-DD) in the entire third millennium: 10/02/2001, 01/02/2010, 11/02/2011, 02/02/2020, 12/02/2021, and 03/02/2030.
The most celebrated palindrome date in modern memory was 02/02/2020, dubbed Twosday. It was the only universal palindrome of the 2020s and, by coincidence, fell on a Sunday in most time zones (a Twosday Sunday). The Knot reported a 5x spike in U.S. wedding bookings versus a typical February Sunday. The preceding universal palindrome was 11/11/1111, over 900 years prior — an extreme rarity that combines symmetric year digits with a symmetric MM/DD pair.
Palindrome dates have parallels in numerology, Vedic muhurat selection, and Chinese numerology (where 8/8/88 was considered auspicious). They have no computational significance — unlike Y2K, the Unix Epoch rollover of 2038, or leap-second insertions — but they have considerable cultural weight as visually pleasing milestones. Many couples consciously target the next palindrome date for milestones; this generator gives them the answer in milliseconds.
The next universal palindrome after 02/02/2020 is 12/12/2121, 95 years from now. Until then, dozens of format-specific palindromes punctuate the calendar — including the ISO 8601 hit 2030-03-02 which, by coincidence, also satisfies the DD/MM/YYYY palindrome test as 02/03/2030. The richness of palindrome dates depends entirely on the digits of the year. The 2020s produced 10 palindromes; the 2030s, surprisingly, will produce 12 due to digit alignment. Run the scanner above to see the full list for any window from 1 AD to 9999 AD.
A final note on dating systems: this tool uses the proleptic Gregorian calendar, the same system used by ISO 8601 and the vast majority of computer date libraries. For pre-1582 dates the Julian calendar was in use historically, but the proleptic Gregorian treatment is the engineering standard. For leap-year handling we follow the Gregorian rule: divisible by 4, except centuries, except multiples of 400 — documented further on our Leap Year Calculator.
What Mathematicians and Planners Say
“Used this on a guest lecture to project all palindrome dates between 1001 and 2999 — it ran instantly. The dual-format toggle handles both my American audience and my European collaborators without any mental conversion. A genuinely scholarly tool.”
“I booked 14 weddings on 02/02/2020 specifically because brides found this kind of generator and wanted symmetry in their date. Knowing the next ISO palindrome is 2030-03-02 lets me start a long-range marketing campaign now.”
“Cross-checked the universal palindrome set against my own enumeration in Mathematica and it matched all six known cases from 1001 to 3001. The weekday column is a thoughtful addition — Twosday was actually a Sunday, and seeing that confirmed in the table is reassuring.”
“My clients ask about palindrome dates for muhurat selection. Having a tool that splits results into MM/DD/YYYY versus DD/MM/YYYY versus ISO simultaneously saves me 30 minutes of manual mirror-checking per consultation.”
