About Sunflower
Sunflower, #ffc512, is yellow at maximum joy — brighter than gold, warmer than lemon, the petal’s pure optimism. It is the yellow that turns its face to follow the sun (heliotropism, in young plants) and asks the viewer to do the same.
History
The sunflower crossed from the Americas to become Ukraine’s national bloom, van Gogh’s obsession (the Sunflowers series), and the 1970s’ favorite motif. Its color name rode that ubiquity into every paint deck.
Psychology
Sunflower reads happy, generous and energizing — yellow’s optimism at full bloom. It is impossible to render gloomy; even alone on a page it insists on cheer.
In design
Sunflower is a joyful accent: electric on charcoal and navy, unusable as text on white (1.4:1). Pair with cornflower blue (the field duo), black (maximum pop), forest and cream. Children’s, summer and optimism-forward brands adore it.
