Dwelling in Sudden Joy
In the joy of meeting a loved one, do not cling to the cause — rest in the joy.
▶ Practice this technique3 / 5 / 10 min · eyes either
How to practice
- 1When unexpected joy arises — meeting a friend, hearing good news — pause.
- 2Turn from the cause of the joy to the joy itself.
- 3Let the feeling fill you completely, with no thought of why.
- 4Rest in the pure delight; it is a taste of your own nature.
Practice note. We usually fixate on the object that "caused" the joy. Here you drop the object and keep the joy — it points back to its true, causeless source.
