Thirty days is the most popular billing cycle on the modern web. Stripe, Recurly, Chargebee, Zuora, and Adyen all default to anniversary-30 because it's predictable: every customer pays exactly 30 days after their previous charge, regardless of which month it lands in. The alternative — calendar-month billing — creates pro-ration headaches for mid-month sign-ups.

The number traces to the Roman calendar. Numa Pompilius added January and February to a 10-month Romulan calendar around 713 BCE. The resulting months alternated 30-31 days with February at 28. Julius Caesar's 45 BCE reform standardized the year at 365.25 days; Augustus borrowed a day from February to make August match July. A lease anchored on the same date pro-rates to the last day of February. Reading contract language carefully prevents disputes.

ISO 8601, published 1988, formalized the YYYY-MM-DD output format the calculator emits. ECMA-262 §21.4 guarantees that JavaScript's Date.setDate() handles month and year roll-over correctly — so adding 30 days never lands on June 31 or Feb 30.
